Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Join a growth-oriented specialty construction contractor as the lead Project Accountant responsible for end-to-end job costing and revenue recognition. You’ll work closely with project managers and estimators, maintain WIP schedules, and ensure accurate percentage-of-completion reporting while optimizing data flow between the field-ops platform and the construction-accounting ERP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Improve and maintain a robust job-cost system; track labor, materials, and overhead by project.
  • Partner with PMs to set up contracts, change-order pricing, and cost codes correctly.
  • Prepare monthly WIP schedules; analyze gross-margin variances and forecast EAC (estimate-at-completion).
  • Reconcile project sub-ledgers to the GL; post adjustments for revenue, costs, and billings.
  • Review progress-billing terms and support AR staff on schedule-of-values invoicing.
  • Conduct post-project profitability reviews; surface cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with IT/development to improve data flow between field and accounting systems.
  • Assist in budgeting job costs during annual planning and re-forecasts.
  • Support external reviews and bonding requirements with project-level financial data.
  • Document project-accounting procedures; recommend automation and reporting enhancements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA / CMA a plus.
  • 3+ years project-accounting experience in construction or specialty subcontracting.
  • Deep knowledge of percentage-of-completion, WIP, and cost-code structures.
  • Hands-on expertise with construction-focused accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Contractor or similar).
  • Proven collaborator with project managers and estimators; strong Excel and analytical skills.
