Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Our client has been a leader in developing and manufacturing innovative media storage and technical furniture products since 1961.  Headquartered in Whittier, Ca, RBC delivers multiple innovative specialized furniture products for critical mission applications.
This role will provide cost accounting and finance support and partnership to manufacturing and operational leadership throughout the organization. 
You will participate in oversight of all cost accounting and operational reporting as may be needed.  You will work closely with sales, operations, purchasing, engineering, and customer support management teams both collaboratively & cross-functionally to support successful operational and financial performance.  Key activities are strategic decision-making analysis, managing effective and efficient product costing, financial statement preparation and related, performance forecasting, reporting processes, supporting the proper management of the existing ERP, and guidance expanding the current ERP implementation in other company areas.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports appropriate for the intended users following company practices.
. Oversight of overhead calculation, product costing, ERP updates related to product costing applications, P&L review, and leadership related to financial margins, product margins, and variance analysis.
· Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
· Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met.
· Participate in monthly closing cycle, reconciliations, journal entries and GL management.  Participate in monthly financial closing and management and executive package.
· Participate in supporting operations on proper BOM creation, review of travelers and routers, R&D studies, production and financial variance analysis.
· Be the finance expert to manufacturing leadership and quickly gain respect, trust, and credibility by promptly delivering actions and subject matter expertise.
· Provide a frugality perspective and quick strategic decision-making support to Manufacturing to evaluate alternative approaches, including participation in ERP integration and enhancements.
· Must support other projects as they are assigned.  Must maintain an open mindset to other projects which may be outside of the accounting department.
· Establish and manage a consistent process across all locations for estimating the cost of new factory-manufactured products or projects to internal and external customers.  Drive continuous estimating process improvement.
· Responsible for costing methodology for Direct Materials & BOMs, Manufacturing Direct Labor Hours & Overhead Costs.  Manufacturing productivity and labor & overhead absorption.  Establish a consistent set of best practices deployed across all departments.
· Establish closed-loop processes and controls to review regular cost yield and variance analysis to confirm the accuracy of product standard costs.  Ensure management execution of change-related actions.
· Work with the manufacturing team for Inventory management and Inventory cycle counts, year-end counts, and inventory valuation management.
· Partner with and support Manufacturing management with regular financial and operational critical performance reviews, including variance analysis and informed commentary.
  • Participate in supporting all audits and internal control operations.
  • Set targets for and supervise all accounting personnel.
  • Develop measurements for Percentage of Completion – Revenue recognition.
  • Participate in supporting R&D studies and related support packages.
  • Support the establishment of budgets following the requirements of Company departments.
  • Participate in projects as they may be assigned.
  • Manage and support year-end audits, reviews, and other regulatory filing requirements.
  • Provides direction and guidance to other team members on the appropriate methodology for process or data analysis of product costs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: The Candidate must have a Degree (BA or BS) with an emphasis in accounting.  At least ten years of senior accounting experience in a manufacturing industry is required.  Some of that experience must include cost accounting.  Only candidates with an accounting degree (BA or BS) will be considered.
· Strong Manufacturing ERP experience required.  Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills are also required.
· Strong process or data analysis skills with proven results showing the ability to work with and influence cross-functional teams and pull together disparate resources into a high-performing team.
· Excellent management and supervisory skills
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Ability to communicate effectively and work with all levels within the organization.
· Strong team player
· Significant experience with cost accounting standards.
· Numerate and process and data analysis skills are a must-have.
· Process improvement and re-engineering experience, including lean manufacturing.
· Significant interaction with production and floor shop team.  You must be willing and interested to walk through the shop floor regularly to understand the production process.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
The work sometimes includes audits of materials and processes in the factory.  Proper factory attire is required to maintain a safe working environment.
