Job Description

Alliance Resource Group is partnered with a privately held commercial trade contractor in Orange County on the search for their first dedicated Director of Human Resources. This role reports directly to the President and consolidates ownership of the HR function: daily operations first, then recruiting, then the systems and infrastructure to support continued headcount growth.

This is a hands on individual contributor leadership role with no team underneath at the start. As workload becomes clearer, there is opportunity to add resources under this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions, employee relations, and policy interpretation across the office population.
  • Own the employee lifecycle, including onboarding from offer acceptance through first day readiness, employee changes, offboarding, and termination documentation.
  • Manage benefits administration and employee related HR transactions in partnership with Accounting and outside benefit providers.
  • Own recruiting strategy and execution for key professional roles, personally sourcing for priority openings including project management, and managing outside recruiters when external support is appropriate.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define requirements, build job descriptions, and structure consistent interview processes.
  • Help implement, optimize, and administer the company's HRIS, building automated workflows across applicant tracking, offers, onboarding, benefits, and offboarding.
  • Convert existing training documents and spreadsheets into a structured Learning Management System, and define proficiency milestones and role expectations alongside managers.
  • Maintain federal, California, and local employment compliance, surface risk early, and help design a company wide performance management framework with coaching for managers on feedback and difficult conversations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience with real ownership of meaningful portions of the function in a growing company.
  • Track record of building HR processes, systems, or programs where none existed, rather than administering programs designed by a larger corporate HR group.
  • Full cycle recruiting experience including personal direct sourcing.
  • Strong employee relations background and current California employment compliance knowledge.
  • Comfort using HRIS platforms and automation to reduce administrative work.
  • Approachable and accessible with employees while bringing leadership sound business reasoning behind recommendations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
  • SHRM CP, SHRM SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred
