Job Title: Interim Tax Director (Contract - 6-9 Months)

Company Overview: Alliance Resource Group, a leading player in the marketing industry, is urgently seeking an Interim Tax Director for a contract position lasting 6-9 months. We have an immediate need of an experienced tax professional to guide our client through complex tax matters, particularly in the realm of partnerships. This role is pivotal in ensuring our client's continued financial compliance and success.
Responsibilities:
As the Interim Tax Director, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing various tax-related functions within our organization. Your key responsibilities will include:

Tax Compliance: Perform a meticulous technical review of partnership and corporate federal and multi-state tax returns. This includes reviewing all associated work papers and ensuring adherence to SOX compliance requirements.

Collaboration: Coordinate effectively with our accounting and finance departments to facilitate the exchange of information necessary for tax planning and compliance reporting requirements.

Income Tax Provisions: Conduct technical reviews of income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.

SEC Filings: Review quarterly and annual SEC filings and disclosures, including the audit disclosure checklist.

Team Development: Develop, mentor, and oversee the Tax Manager. Additionally, be prepared to recruit new talent for potential team expansion.

Legislation Analysis: Stay updated on federal and state tax legislation changes and assist in understanding their impact on compliance and reporting requirements for the company.

Indirect Tax: Oversee indirect tax compliance and reporting requirements, which may involve research, analysis, and communication with senior management regarding sales and use tax matters.

External Partners: Manage external tax service provider workflow and liaise with accounting and finance departments to ensure the timely filing and reporting of tax-related items.

Structural Changes: Analyze the impacts on income tax reporting resulting from changes to the business structure and other transactions.

Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements and best practices within the tax department.

Distribution Calculations: Conduct monthly reviews and analysis of partnership tax distribution calculations and communicate with partners as necessary.

TRA Liability: Perform quarterly reviews and analysis of TRA (Tax Receivable Agreement) liability calculations, valuation allowances, and tax provisions in collaboration with an outside tax service provider.

Tax Credits: Manage external tax providers to prepare studies related to R&D tax credits and Sec. 174 capitalization/amortization.

Audit Handling: Manage external tax audits, including income, sales and use, and property taxes.

Strategic Partner: Act as a strategic tax partner by proactively assessing and identifying opportunities for tax savings. Provide feedback through ad hoc analysis and presentations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in federal and state taxation.
- Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns for corporations and partnerships.
- Active CPA certification.
- Experience with accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA firm is preferred.
- Strong management experience.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to handle extremely sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with excellent organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Excel is essential.
