High Growth real estate development /Investment firm based in San Marcos is seeking an intelligent, highly motivated Project Controller to head all project accounting. Ideal background is a CPA with both public accounting (external audit) and private accounting experience within the industry.

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all project accounting

Principal responsibilities include:
  • Oversee all project accounting
  • Manage the budget and audit process annually, as well as for development and construction projects
  • Ensure that required debt payments are funded, debt covenants achieved and facilitate bank draws
  • Oversee and audit recurring bank reconciliations
  • Supervise all accounting/finance personnel
  • Reconcile year-end payroll tax reports and review/issue W2’ s Financial
  • Develop benchmarks that measure the company’ s performance against its strategic plan/direction
  • Build financial models/pro forma for land/project acquisition/disposition and development opportunities; provide financial assessment, advice and recommendation
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and ad hoc financial reports including financial statements, detailed variance analysis, and general ledger account reconciliations/forecasts for individual projects
  • Responsible for general ledger accuracy, accounts payable, payroll, and cash flow management
  • Assemble comprehensive bank packages for project funding and re-financing Risk Management
  • Ongoing analyses and reporting of the organization’ s liabilities and investments
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems to ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Maintain, bid and negotiate corporate and project insurance coverage

  • Proven experience as a Controller, finance officer or like-experience; preference for experience in the (residential) real estate industry
  • BA in Accounting, Finance or like-field; MBA (nice to have)
  • CPA and previous public accounting experience highly preferred
  • Strong ability to analyze data and build forecasting models/reporting to align with evolving needs
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (especially Excel) and preferably Sage Timberline experience
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, project manage and problem solve at a high-level
  • Conscientious about timeliness and quality of work product
  • Strong communication skills
