Real Estate Accountant
Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA
Schedule: Onsite; may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after the initial 90-day period
Compensation: $73,000–$85,000 annually, DOE; may be eligible for bonus
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
The Opportunity
Alliance Resource Group is recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established organization supporting a national portfolio of healthcare and real estate operations, for a Real Estate Accountant to join its growing real estate accounting team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants to build a strong foundation in real estate accounting, public company reporting, financial reporting, and REIT operations. The position offers exposure to a diverse real estate portfolio and the opportunity to work cross-functionally with Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and Investment teams.

The Real Estate Accountant will support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, account reconciliations, financial reporting, lease accounting, and a variety of special projects.
Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for real estate and REIT entities.

  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

  • Review lease agreements and related documentation to support appropriate accounting treatment.

  • Assist with quarterly and annual SEC and financial reporting packages.

  • Maintain property-level and entity-level accounting records.

  • Prepare and analyze balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.

  • Support intercompany accounting, including distributions, contributions, and settlement activities.

  • Analyze lessee financial reporting and compliance packages while building relationships to improve financial communication with lessees.

  • Support debt compliance and lender reporting requirements.

  • Partner with Treasury, Tax, Lease, Legal, and Investment teams to gather information and resolve accounting matters.

  • Participate in annual audits and respond to auditor requests.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 2-3 years of accounting experience; internships and/or public accounting experience are welcome.

  • Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and U.S. GAAP.

  • Interest in real estate, REITs, and public company accounting.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis functions.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Team-oriented mentality with a desire to learn and grow professionally.

  • CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
