Senior Accountant (ASC 842)

Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Lease Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will be primarily responsible for managing and accounting for lease agreements in compliance with ASC 842, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, familiarity with lease accounting systems, and a solid understanding of lease classification, measurement, and disclosure requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with ASC 842 by reviewing, interpreting, and recording lease agreements (both lessee and lessor as applicable).

  • Maintain and reconcile the lease subledger and general ledger for all lease-related accounts.

  • Partner with internal teams (e.g., Real Estate, Legal, FP&A) to gather necessary lease data and review terms.

  • Prepare and record journal entries for lease liabilities, right-of-use (ROU) assets, and lease modifications.

  • Assist in preparing lease-related footnote disclosures and supporting documentation for external auditors.

  • Monitor lease activity and perform periodic assessments for changes, impairments, terminations, or remeasurements.

  • Support implementation and continuous improvements of lease accounting software and processes.

  • Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to lease accounting.

  • Ensure all new leases and modifications are properly classified, recorded, and documented in accordance with ASC 842.

  • Support SOX controls and internal audits relating to the lease accounting process.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.

  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a focus on lease accounting or fixed assets.

  • Strong understanding of ASC 842 and U.S. GAAP.

  • Experience with lease accounting systems (e.g., LeaseQuery, CoStar, Visual Lease, or similar).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.) a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a multi-entity or multi-location environment.

  • Previous exposure to public company reporting requirements.

  • Familiarity with SOX compliance.
