Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting

Job Description

Our client is a fast-growing multifamily-focused investor, owner, operator and developer. The firm focuses primarily on value-add and opportunistic apartment transactions, including acquisitions, development and construction, among other strategies, investing alongside various private equity and institutional partners.

POSITION SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP financial statements for multiple entities, properties, and joint ventures.
  • Assist with consolidated financial statement preparation, including elimination entries and consolidation schedules.
  • Maintain supporting schedules for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Perform detailed flux and variance analyses and investigate unusual fluctuations.
  • Prepare cash flow statements and supporting analyses.
  • Assist with preparation of divisional and consolidated financial reporting packages.
  • Support preparation of management reporting and executive-level dashboards.
Month-End and Year-End Close
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
  • Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
  • Complete account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Review project cost activity, indirect cost allocations, capitalized costs, and fixed asset transactions.
  • Assist with intercompany balancing and elimination processes.
  • Ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and supported.
Technical Accounting & Audit/Tax Compliance
  • Serve as a point of contact for external auditors during annual audits and interim procedures.
  • Prepare audit workpapers and supporting schedules.
  • Research and document accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP.
  • Prepare technical accounting memorandums and position papers as necessary.
  • Assist with maintaining current internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Support tax reporting requirements and external tax advisors requests, related to U.S. partnership and corporation income tax filings.
Investor and Lender Reporting
  • Review covenant compliance schedules and key quarterly lender reporting requirements.
  • Support capital call funding processes; prepare sources and uses reports
Asset Management and Construction Reporting
  • Assist with monitoring project status, capital expenditures, profitability and cost trends.
  • Coordinate financial information between development, construction, and ownership entities.
  • Support fixed asset capitalization processes and CIP rollforwards.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting, capital budget reviews, and liquidity reporting.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA license preferred or actively pursuing CPA certification.
Experience
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant accounting, technical accounting, corporate accounting or financial reporting experience.
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, consolidations, account reconciliations, and audit documentation standards
  • Experience in real estate development, construction, private equity, asset management, or investment management preferred.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations and eliminations
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems. Experience working with RealPage, Sage Intacct or a similar ERP accounting software is a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and divisions
  • Ability to work independently. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
