Job Description


 

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to join a growing retail organization and lead the day-to-day accounting operations while helping scale the finance function alongside the business. This role will oversee the monthly close process, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and internal controls, while partnering closely with executive leadership to improve processes and support strategic growth.

 

The ideal candidate is a strong technical accountant with retail experience who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-location environment and enjoys building scalable processes.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversee the general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, payroll accounting, and cash management.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Manage inventory accounting, including costing, inventory reconciliations, reserves, and inventory controls.
  • Oversee revenue recognition processes and ensure proper accounting treatment across multiple revenue streams.
  • Manage accounting for multiple retail locations, ensuring consistency in financial reporting and operational controls.
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies to support continued growth.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party partners.
  • Partner with operations and executive leadership to analyze business performance and provide actionable financial insights.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automate workflows, and enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Mentor, develop, and lead the accounting team while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Assist with ERP implementations, system upgrades, and process improvement initiatives as needed.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA highly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role
  • Prior experience within a retail, consumer products, or multi-location business environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and multi-site accounting.
  • Experience managing the month-end close and preparing financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • ERP system experience highly preferred (NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
