Our client is a mid-sized consumer products company that is expending internationally. This role will support all cost accounting, cost analysis, inventory valuation and be instrumental in the budgeting and re-forecast processes. They are looking for candidates with strong leadership qualities as this role will be groomed to oversee the department within 1-2 years. 
Accounting and Financial Reporting:
  • Maintain standard material, labor and overhead costs
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile inventories to balance sheet
  • Review and adjust inventory reserves in accordance with accounting policies
  • Analyze gross margin, other cost of sales, inventory trends and turnover ratios,   and production yield data
  • Prepare audit schedules and footnote disclosures
  • Support business unit and manufacturing groups with cost, mfg, and inventory analysis
  • Assist in complying with documentation and internal control requirements
Inventory Accounting and Control:
  • Work with Manufacturing to plan and conduct physical inventories
  • Reconcile physical inventories to ERP  system  for applicable locations
Reporting and Analysis:
  • Validate GAAP and non-GAAP P&L results by performing detailed analysis of ‘ cost of sales’ and ‘ opex’ related functional areas
  • Support Product/Customer margin analysis by reviewing, correcting and reconciling transactions that drive detailed corporate and business unit P&L reporting.  
    • Reconciliation involves detailed analysis of business activity by P&L account, profit center and profitability segment (e.g. customer/product)
  • Support the analysis of variance incurred during production and purchasing activities by comparing the basis for standard cost (info records, overhead rates from costing sheets)
Business Process:
  • Ensure timely completion of month-end process for settlement of production orders   and WBS elements
  • Perform allocations on a monthly basis and ensure the results correctly reflect allocation logic agreed by business units
  • Manage the periodic process for collection and processing of cost center plan data
  • Ensure the timely update to Activity Type rates (direct labor and engineering labor rates)
  • Support the process of updating standard costs
JOB REQUIREMENTS Education & Experience:
  • B.S. degree in Accounting, Information Systems, Economics, or related field
  • 6+ years professional cost accounting experience  (experience in apparel or consumer goods environment preferred)
  • Experience in SAP or Great Plains  environment preferred.
